Allah's Rasul, Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam
Gives a Schedule for Completing the Reading and Recitation of the Qur'an!

Dr. Pasha

Like everything else, Allah's Rasul, Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam, did not leave this one to chance either! I mean reading, reciting and completing the Qur'an: How slowly, fast or frequently the Qur'an should be read and completed!

And here are some Ahaadheeth (plural for Hadith) that lay out this schedule in as much detail as one needs or can get. I got this information from the Internet

And the Internet, as I have repeatedly stated, is a bottomless pit of garbage and toxicity. But, at the same time, the Internet also contains many priceless gems of knowledge and helpful hints on how to do a million things in life.

Allah bless the people who posted these Ahaadeeth (plural for Hadith) on the Internet.

Whatever credit there is in this effort, it belongs to those wonderful people who posted these Ahadeeth (plural for Hadith).

All I am doing here is taking the information they provided and making it available to those I know.

I have not checked any of these Ahaadeeth (plural for Hadith) on my own, except for relying on their dim echoes in my own diminishing memory. But I have taken the liberty of editing the English words for clarity purposes.

  1. So, Hadith Number One is from Abu Dawood

Rasulullah, Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam, said to Abdullah bin Amr, Radiyallahu Anhu:

“Recite the Qur’an in one month.”

To which Abdullah bin Amr said:

"I have more energy than that!"

To which Rasulullah, Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam, said: "Then recite it in twenty days.”

Abdullah bin Amr said: "I have more energy than that!”

Rasulullah, Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam, said: “Recite it in fifteen then!”

Abdullah bin Amr said: "I have more energy than that!”

Rasulullah, Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam, said: “Recite it in ten!”

Abdullah bin Amr said: "I have more energy than that!”

Rasulullah, Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam, said: “Recite it in seven days and no sooner than that!"

  1. And, Hadith Sharif Number Two is also from Abu Dawood.

And this Hadith also involves the Sahabi Abdullah bin Amr, Radiyallahu Anhu.

No, that’s not all. Let us refer to another hadith in order to shed some more light on the subject

One day, Abdullah bin Amr, Radiyallahu Anhu, asked Rasulullah, Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam in how many days he should complete the recitation of the Qur’an.

Rasulullah, Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam replied, “In one month.”

I said, says Abdullah bin Amr, "But I am capable of more!”

In response, Rasulullah, Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam, kept reducing the number of days required to complete the reading of the Qur'an, till he said: “Recite it in seven.”

But Abdullah bin Amr again said, “I am capable of more!”

At which point Rasulullah, Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam, replied: "Those who recite the Qur'an in less than three days will not understand what they are reading.”

  1. Finally, Hadith Number Three is from Ibn Maajah:

According to this Hadith, Abdullah bin Amr, Radiyallahu Anhu, says, Rasulullah, Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam, said, “Those who read the Qur’an in less than three days will not properly understand what they are reading.”

Well, there you have it! The Official Protocol from Rasulullah, Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam, about how many days people should take to complete the reading of the Qur'an!
