A Letter to a Friend!
(Bringing Islam to the World One Concept at a Time!
Taking the Qur'an to Every Home and Heart that Needs It --
And which One Does Not?)
December 29, 2016
I owe you a call. In fact, we both owe each other a lot of calls.
It was always my hope, and endeavor, Cedar Rapids, IA, will grow to be a beacon light of Islam in America and the world. And that hope still burns bright.
In the meantime, if it has not already occurred to you, and if you are not already doing it, may I suggest to you the following:
(a) Display all our books prominently at the Islamic Center at Cedar Rapids -- and also in nearby places such as Waterloo, IA, Davenport, IA, Iowa City, IA, Ames, IA, and so on.
(b) Distribute our books, tapes and booklets through the mosque and wherever else you can to all and sundry -- Muslim and non-Muslim alike.
For, that is what we always did at Cedar Rapids: we addressed both Muslims and non-Muslims with equal focus.
For, Allah's work does not happen by itself. It needs people to do it.
And even though Allah always chooses his own people to do his work, and even though Allah is Al-Ghaniy and As-Samad, and does not depend on anyone in any form or shape, everyone of us must crash that line to Allah and find our place in that long and winding line that is holding our place for us.
For, if what we are doing is the right thing, and you have been helping us in doing it all along, then our Literature must be as widely distributed and publicized as possible.
Throughout America and throughout the world.
For, as you know, this is Original Literature produced in American English for the American People and the World.
And there is nothing quite like it anywhere in the world.
It is written in original English language for people whose mother tongue -- first language as it were -- is English.
Our work is not a bunch of translations, most of them not in the most elegant prose, from Urdu and Arabic, as much of the so-called Islamic literature in America and England used to be before we started to produce our own Original Literature in Native English-American Language -- over the past 50 years or so, frankly, with Cedar Rapids, IA, being one of the very early stops on this railroad to Islam in America, in the middle to late 1970's.
And in the production of this literature you have played not an insignificant role. Allah bless you.
And, this is a reminder for all of us, not the least myself, and, in fact, starting out with me as the first and prime target and addressee, it is never too late to put one's shoulder to this wheel that we believe and we hope is the Wheel of Allah.
I have never forgotten what X said to me once in the presence of all, Allah bless him and his family, and you were there:
"I will go to the Poorhouse to get you here!"
Allah will never send Jim to the Poorhouse. But his love for Allah and his faith in this work which we were doing for Islam in America spoke through those most powerful words.
Those words continue to sustain me and give me strength.
And that work remains undone and unattempted and uncompleted.
America still awaits the Message of Islam as a Malcolm, Rahmatullahi Alaihi, a true American Muslim and Patriot, would have delivered it, to put it in some kind of a perspective: original; authentic; one hundred percent Islamic; and one hundred percent American.
Allah bless you and your family and your community.
And God Bless America, home to all of us, to the extent any place on earth could be considered a "home" to anyone of us.
For, our true home is Jannat, from where Iblees, the Devil, got us thrown out, due, of course, to our own inability to take Allah's words seriously.
Much as we are continuing to do right here in this world, under the dark influence of the same Iblees and his Dhurriyyat -- offspring -- not having learned a thing from our bitter experience with him during our brief first stop in Jannat.
And due to how we let Devil's Lies -- Wa Qaasamahumaa Innee Lakumaa La-Minan-Naasiheen -- override in our thinking and our action Allah's most clear and unambiguous command and warning:
Wa Laa Taqrabaa Haadhi-Hish-Shajarata'
Fa-Takoonaa Minal Khaasireen.
"Don't go near that tree,
or all will be lost!"
"And he swore to them that he had nothing
but their best interests at heart."
And Allah told us:
"He deceived them."
And Allah's warning had been most clear and stark:
Innash-Shayitaana Lakum 'Aduwwun,
"Shayitaan is your enemy.
Treat him and deal with him like one."
And our true home, of course, is Allah.
And we all live in the hope of returning to Allah upon the completion of our tenure in this transient and temporary earthly home, where Allah appointed us as his Khalifah to do his work and to carry out his mandate.
As Allah Almighty put it in the Qur'an:
Wa Lakum Fil Ardi Mustaqarrun wa Mataa-'un Ilaa Heen!
"And there shall be a temporary abode for you on earth,
with all your needs taken care of."
Innee Jaa-'ilun Fil Ardi Khaleefah!
"I plan to appoint a ruler on earth,
who will implement my mandate."
I am sharing this mail with the coworkers family, for, they are now the spearhead of this work, such as it is, around the world, wherever and however they can do it.
And I know for a fact how happy and excited they all will be for you to join them, shoulder to shoulder, in this effort, even beyond what you already do on your own and to help us out with our literature.
Please make sure you share this letter with Big X. And given him the same message and invitation from all of us. For, X-O is never away from our thoughts and our prayers.
And this letter will also appear on www.Islamicsolutions.com, inshallah, with appropriate edits.
