“Dr. Pasha Renews Call for World Day of Repentance to be observed on October 11, 2016”
Killing of Husain:
World Day of Repentance
Dr. Pasha has issued a call to world Muslims to observe a World Day of Repentance this ‘Aashoora, 1433.
Muslims are human and as humans they have done many things over the centuries that are contrary to the best interests of Islam, Muslims and the World.
Some of the bad things Muslims did over the years are small with minimal consequences.
Some others, however, are gigantic with colossal global and long-lasting effects.
Some are individual acts of failure and malfeasance. But some others are collective, national, societal, cultural, governmental and global.
Among some of the most horrible collective things Muslims did was the killing of Husain bin Ali and his family at Karbala, modern Iraq, in the 7th Century.
This most heinous crime resulted in the brutal killing, by the Muslim government of the day, of the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam, and his family.
But it also did something worse.
It dismantled the democratic Government of the People by the People that Prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam, had set up on such a grand scale on this earth.
And that lasted in this world for over 60 years.
But this crime at Karbala replaced that blessed People’s Government with Hereditary Kingship.
Muslims – and the world – have been paying the price of that most disastrous act of national treachery and betrayal by Muslims down the centuries to this day.
Therefore, it is only right and proper that on this 10th day of Muharram 1433, Muslims around the world reflect seriously on all the wrong things they may have done individually and collectively that might have been against the best interests of God and his creation, Muslim and non-Muslim, human and non-human, and repent.
“Addeenu, annaseehah!” says Prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam. And this thinking is derived from that most noble Hadith.
The list of Muslim dark deeds includes the killing of Husain and his family at Karbala.
For, what happened at Karbala was not just a tragedy, it was a crime.
It was a crime, not just against an individual called Husain bin Ali and his family, but it was a crime against Islam and Muslims.
And it was a crime against God and his world.
And it was what the world has come to know today as a crime against humanity.
Even though in Islam every day is a day of repentance, as is every living moment, given all that has gone wrong with Muslim societies and communities over the centuries, it is time for Muslims to repent on this day as a collective World Day of Repentance.
Maybe Allah will listen to their cries of sorrow, regret and repentance and change their condition to a better one.
And make this world a better place for all.
Therefore, Muslims on this day must repent and make a serious resolve to be better people during this entire new year, 1433, that Allah has blessed them with.
And for the rest of their lives thereafter.
And there is no reason why non-Muslims should not join the Muslims in the observing of this World Day of Repentance.
