Peaceful Pro-Democracy Protests in Egypt: What Is Islam and Where Are the Muslims – and the non-Muslims?

Right now, there is no Iman or Qur’an or Islam or Ramadan or Laitatul Qadr outside of supporting the peaceful Pro-Democracy protestors in the streets of Egypt using every lawful, legitimate and peaceful means you can right from where you are.

And praying and shedding copious tears for them on a daily, hourly basis.

And hurting and aching for them and mourning their peaceful dead who are facing brutal military and police bullets at the hands of Egypt’s Criminal Military Junta of the arch-criminal Sisi with nothing but their bare chests and copies of the Qur’an they carry in their hands.

That is what Islam means today. And simple, honest human decency means.

The peaceful, unarmed resistance of the Pro-Democracy men, women and children in Egypt to the criminal coup d’état by Sisi and his criminal military cohort is the true test of our times today, not only for Muslims but also for all non-Muslim lovers of Freedom, Justice, Democracy and Human Equality everywhere.

I have no hesitation in saying I know where exactly great non-Muslim lovers of Freedom and Democracy in history would have come down in this epochal human struggle against the Dark Forces of Tyranny represented by Sisi, his Criminal Military Junta and all their Muslim and non-Muslim supporters, both inside and outside Egypt, from the corrupt Azhar Shaikh Tayyib to the corrupt Gulf Rulers to all the hypocrites and panderers from Europe to America and the rest of the world.

They would have spoken out with one clear, ringing voice against this criminal coup d’etat that toppled Egypt’s legitimate, lawful and democratic government, the first and only one Egypt has had in centuries; kidnapped the only democratically elected President in all of Egyptian history and is holding him incommunicado in an undisclosed location, not allowing even his wife and children to visit him; abolished the Constitution that Egypt ratifies with a 65 percent popular vote; shut down the Parliament that the Egyptian People freely and openly elected; and massacred and mowed down hundreds of peaceful protestors – men, women and children.

Some of the names I have in mind are Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, John Milton, John Mill, Oliver Cromwell, Henry Thoreau, Walt Whitman, Voltaire, Rousseau, Abraham Lincoln and Bertrand Russell.

And this list would include Mahatma Gandhi, Albert Schweitzer, Nelson Mandela, Archbishop Tutu and others, just as this list would also have included all the great men of God from Moses and Jesus to Buddha and others.

I daresay they all would have denounced this criminal military coup d’état in Egypt of July 3, 2013, and the daily atrocities the arch-criminal Sisi and his Criminal Military Junta are now committing against unarmed peaceful Pro-Democracy protestors throughout Egypt.

Shaikh Qardawi gave a Fatwa last week that every Muslim must be out protesting. He called it every Muslim’s Fard ‘Ayin – individual duty that no adult male or female without a legitimate excuse can shirk or escape.

I had said way earlier, if you cannot be with the Pro-Democracy protestors in the streets of Egypt, your days and nights must be spent doing everything lawful and peaceful in your power trying to help and support the Egyptian Pro-Democracy protestors and praying for them day and night right from where you are.

For, what is happening in Egypt right now is the Badr, Uhud and Khandaq of our time. Next inevitable stop is Fath Makkah that will follow soon inshallah on the heels of these other momentous events – should that be the will and plan of God Almighty.

If you are looking for Iman, Islam, Qur’an, Ramadan, Lailatul Qadr and things like that outside what is going on in Egypt right now, then I am afraid there isn’t much you are going to find.

So, the question is: What is Islam today and where exactly are the Muslims of the world and what are they doing?

And, Muslim or not, where exactly do you stand and what are you doing to help?
