Islam Is Pursuit of Perfection on Earth

In Heaven, and everywhere, perfection belongs to Allah, God Almighty. And no human being can aspire to it or attain it.

The mere contemplation of the attribute of perfection with regard to anyone other than God Almighty is blasphemy.

This is self-evident.

For, to be perfect is to be God. And God is he who is perfect. And, logically and obviously, nothing and no one else can be perfect.

How can it be otherwise?

Yet, there is one aspect of “perfection” everyone must pursue on earth: in everything one does during one’s own life on earth.

That means no matter what it is one does as a Muslim, one must try to do it in the best possible manner: to the best of one’s ability – and more.

For, that is Islam.

Islam is the search for “perfection” on earth. It is the ceaseless human desire – and attempt – to do things ever better.

So, that is what Islam is. It is doing things to the best of one’s ability – and in the best possible manner.

It is frail and wanting and deficient human effort to seek to emulate God’s perfection in Heaven, and everywhere, in one’s own flawed life on earth.

Fattaqullaha mastata’tum, says God Almighty in the Qur’an. That noble and most compassionate and wise passage or Aayat of the Qur’an can be roughly rendered into English as, “Fear Allah, and, with regard to everything, do the best you can!”

So, God is perfection in Heaven, and everywhere, and Islam is the relentless pursuit of perfection (as a certain advertisement cleverly phrases it) on earth.
