Pharaoh vs. Moses in the Land of Egypt

Egypt is no ordinary place. It is the land where tyranny runs deep and Pharaohs claim to be God.

And yet, paradoxically, Egypt also is the place from where the clarion cry of freedom rang out when Moses (May God Bless Him!) demanded from Pharaoh: Let My People Go!

Or, as the Qur’an put it: Arsil ma’iya banee Israa-eel.

After thousands of years, that same timeless drama of Right vs. Wrong is being played out again. And this time, it is between a modern-day Moses in the person of Ikhwan’s candidate for President, Dr. Muhammad Morsi, and the forces of tyranny and corruption embodied in the Military regime of Mubarak and others. Those who love freedom and democracy for Egypt and the Great Egyptian People – and for all the other peoples, nations and societies of this world – must show that love by maybe fasting and praying and begging God for help.

They may fast one or more of these four days – this coming Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday – May 21-24, 2012.

And they must pray and beg God Almighty to grant victory to the Ikhwan and to Dr. Morsi in Egyptian elections for President, slated for 23 & 24 (Wednesday & Thursday) of this month of May, 2012.

They may even want to do what is called a Qiyaamul Layil – spend the entire night performing prayers and begging Allah for help – either on Monday night; or on Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday night. [...]

How much clearer can the issue of Democracy = Islam = Deen = Shari’ah be?

Finally, the world seems to be getting around to understanding this equation. 

But notwithstanding those who haven’t got a clue, it seems to me that the message is gaining traction, as it were, across the world. You get the impression that more people are embracing this axiom, this truth. [...]

For those who understand both Islam and democracy, and the world in which we live, there is no doubt about the fact that democracy is Islam.

Do you think that is partly why the Qur’an mandated education – including a thorough knowledge and understanding of the world, for example – before people begin to even think or talk about Islam.

Leave alone boast and brag about it.

Why do you think God started his message to the world with the command: Read?

Iqra’!

Do you think it is a subtle hint from the creator of the world that Islam was not going to be a playground for fools, nincompoops and ignoramuses?

That it was a declaration from God that Islam was not going to be a bonanza for sundry Snake-Oil Merchants?

And for the marketers of all kinds of Mumbo-Jumbo in the name of what the world so glibly calls “Religion”?

Take heed people, Islam is democracy. That means, no democracy, no Islam.”

Everyone knows it is open season on Islam. Of course, turkey and deer season in some parts of the world is not too far off either.

That means anyone from any background, and proceeding from any combination of motives, is free to shoot their mouth in any direction they please on Islam and things Islamic.

And they will be none the worse for doing that.

And that includes friends, enemies and innocent bystanders.

That is why the word Shari’ah gets bandied about a lot these days. By friends and foes alike. [...]
