“Eid Mubarak!

Kullu ‘Aam wa Antum Bikhair!

Bayraminiz Kutlu Olsun!

The last one being Turkish.

Of course! And why not? Eid Mubarak — to one and all! Indeed!

Muslim and non-Muslim alike! For, this is a common occasion ordained by God for all — fasting I mean. At least so says the Qur’an — Kamaa Kutiba ‘Alalladheena Min Qablikum: The way it was ordained for those before you.

When no one is watching or listening, I say to myself: That is right, yet another occasion — I will call it an “excuse” if you promise not to call me a Kaafir — for God Almighty to bless his people — all people — on earth.

But the question that keeps popping up in my head over and over is this: How are we — Muslim and non-Muslim — different today, after this Ramazaan and after this Eid, than we were before them?

And do you know what? Maybe, just maybe, asking that question alone will somehow help us to be better people today — more honest; more truthful; more just; more compassionate; more hardworking; more forgiving; and somehow less hateful, less prejudiced and less angry — after this Eid, than we were yesterday, before this Eid.

I am not going to say: “May Allah Make Us So, Aameen!” Even though I will and I do.

I am going to say instead: “Try and work on it on your own — and then see what Allah does.“

“During the Seventh Century, when Islam made its last earthly appearance in Arabia, the world was a pretty dishonest place. Everyone lied to everyone and everyone pretty much deceived and stole from everyone.

Islam came and showed the world that Honesty Was the Best Policy. Not only in this world, but also in the next world — the world after death. And that this honesty and integrity should be practiced with everyone: friend and foe; Muslim and non-Muslim; man, woman and child.

A morally hungry and tired world then jumped to embrace Islam.

“People say all kinds of things about all kinds of things. But here is what Prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam, says about the human body and its needs: “Your body has rights and claims over you. So give your body its due!”

Now, think about it: Does this sound like the kind of mumbo-jumbo most people peddle in the name of “religion”? Or does it sound like really and truly it could have come only from a higher, divine source?

This is another proof that Islam and its teachings are not a human concoction, but a direct revelation from God Almighty to his blessed prophets and messengers, may God bless them all, and in particular to Prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam!” (Dr. Pasha)

“Islam came to teach the world a simple truth: All earth is home and all humanity is family.

If the world understood this simple truth to any degree, and that includes today’s Muslims as well, what a different world this would be.

That, as they say, is Islam in a nutshell.” (Dr. Pasha)

“When Ramadan comes, Muslims flock to Muslims asking for their Zakat money and soliciting  all kinds of other donations from them for this or that charitable purpose.

This Ramadan, I come to you asking for a very different kind of favor: Try as hard as you can to be the best Muslim you can be, and the best human being you can be, and then hold on to what you learn in this blessed month of Ramadan when Ramadan takes its leave in the next few days.

I am not asking you to give your money to us. Instead, I am asking you this Ramadan to give your life to the one who gave it to you in the first place: God Almighty.

That means, this Ramadan, make a commitment to spend the rest of your life – regardless of whether you are young or old, man or woman – in loving God and serving humanity.

If you just did that, what a beautiful world you would build!” (Dr. Pasha)

“As much as you can, live your life typo-free. If you cannot, at least spend some serious time proofreading your life.” (Dr. Pasha)
